Bloomberg just found out what I suspected a long time: Spain is the best place to be
Let me show some highly personal proof to confirm this:
I already knew more or less that "the only handicap is a bad attitude" but yet and to my great joy I recently learned that imposed restrictions can be a source of great satisfaction.
This is wat happened:
some weeks ago I had a motorcycle accident, broke my right wrist and was sentenced to six weeks of plaster.
Since that that fateful day I write my shopping lists mirrored (like Leonardo used to do!), I found out how to peel oranges with one hand and finally managed to cut down my charcoal drawings to the essence.
Eureka, eureka, eureka!
Now to be seen at the Salón de Otoño 2018 in Alicante:
#MeTarget - 2018 - Oil on canvas - 60x120cm
Here in the proud company of her creator Griet Wens and (background) the pin kings of the Alicante Artist Association César Sanchez Pérez and Fernando Mateo García.
And of course this tableau has a message:
" Femininity is good, femininity is beautiful, femininity is adorable ! "
Homo Sapiens is a sexual species. There is no point in ignoring that fact.
Instead of frenetically trying to make everything and everybody gender neutral we could allow men to be manly (be a gentleman, not a testomonster), woman to be feminine (other than porn star) and, most important, allow children to be nothing yet.
That is why I do not agree at all with Marguerite Dumas when she says that
'You have to be very fond of people to be able to love them. Very very fond. Otherwise they're simply unbearable.' .
Ofcourse people can get on our nerves.
But consider this dear Marguerite: they can't help it!
People are imperfect, limited, stupid, insecure and poorly designed fellow creatures who are desperately trying their best.
With this in mind, it is much easier to like them,
Or to look at them, listen to them and even love them.
Brigitte Bardot: "I have never been a victim of sexual harassment. And I thought it was nice to be told that I was beautiful or that I had a cute little butt. This kind of compliment is charming. But there are many actresses who play naughty with producers to get a role. Then, fishing for media attention, they come to tell that they have been harassed ...
In fact, rather than to help them, it hurts them. "
Catherine Deneuve: "Rape is a crime. But insistent or clumsy seduction is not a crime, nor is gallantry a machismo aggression. "
Glenda Jackson: In my country, two women die every week at the hands of their partners. The idea that this is suddenly going to transform the lives of women is absurd. Violence against women is as old as we are. The trafficking of women isn’t going to stop because some big guy in Hollywood has to give up his company. And to think that people didn’t know it was going on. Come on.
Spike-online «Rather than bringing the sexes together with improved mutual understanding, we are in danger of driving the sexes apart. If I were a man right now, I’d lock the door of my study with the intention of satisfying myself with internet porn for the indefinite future. Real women would not seem worth the risk of destroying my career"
for me as an artist 'back to basics' has a double intention. Or significance, or motivation or you may even call it personal development plan (Yes, old school homework!)
a) back to the core as far as subject is concerned: the naked human
b) back to the craft in technique: anatomic drawing of, again, the naked human.
There is no escape from it, no matter how modern I may feel, I keep crawling back to the craftmanship of the old masters
