Sometimes, when you see (or hear or read or taste) the work of others, the sensation goes right to your heart. That happens to me when I see images I wanted to have made myself but did not yet manage to do so. At such moments, admiration bubbles up.and I know I found a masters. A new revelation of this kind are the portraits of Lita Cabellut. Chapeau! It will take me ages to even come close to her heels, but that's ok. It's good to have ideals. Sometimes I recognize my own path in the route of others. That happened recently when I saw this work by Serafin Santiago, Gosh, so much power, and this cloudy work in pogress

If first there is nothing and then there is something, a miracle has happened. Such miracles have a name: creation Creation is a devine power. And we all have it. We, the human kind, have a constant need to identify ourselves: we look in the mirror, we do things, we behave in a certain way and we devellop an attitude. One of the best ways to identify ourselves and become a (better) person is to do something and to continue to do so until you become good at it. Remember the 7 pillars of Western wisdom?
In 2008 Kishore Mahbubani ascribed the success of the emerging Asian economies as the result of some adopted Western values. He called these The Seven Pillars of Western Wisdom. Here they are :free market economy, science and technology, meritocracy, pragmatism, peace, law and education. Once or twice and the other day again I must admit, a wise man gave me this excellent advice: try to never talk about politics or religion. Nothing good ever comes out of that. He's right of course. Yet: " Brussels is not a metropolis, Brussels is typically Belgian. Brussels is a handful of baronnies ."
For the first believer, Adam and all those following him it has always been a harsh task to keep women under control.. The lascivious Lilith went her own way, the dedicated Eve ate an apple and the poetess of Qazvin taught women to read, so that they could understand their own destiny. Wise woman. Evil end. Good book. It's so simple: when you love yourself, you will also love others and (the bonus!): others love you! The art is to remember this very often every day. by thé Master of Life Alain de Botton. http://www.humo.be/actua/360933/vermijd-een-burn-out-animatiefilmpje-van-en-met-alain-de-botton-leert-u-lief-te-zijn-voor-uzelf A statement from Bobonne, Luckas Vander Taelens' grandmother and his childhoods guide through the labyrinth of human despair. She had an answer to most questions about the sense and nonsense of life. This one "A chaque jour suffit sa peine" means something like "Each day has enough of its trouble". The idea that one grief per day is enough for a mortal, was her way to mollify a cruel God not to send more mischief her way. It also suggests a person should not be bothered with too many issues at once. you finally have the time and the confidence to unleash all of your creative power: the children have left home, hubby is kept busy elsewhere, demanding clients belong to the past and witch burnings are out of fashion (let's hope it stays that way) but no less important as relief is that nobody expects a mature female artist to strip when artistry and meaning are to be interpreted (though it may be said: Milo Moiré is quite a piece of art). An interesting Guerrilla Girls observation on the matter: "Do women have to be naked to get into the Met. Museum? Less then 5 % of artists in the Modern Art section are women, but 85% of the nudes are female." |
